The Cavanbah Centre sits on Ewingsdale Road with a quiet utilitarian confidence that most visitors drive straight past on their way into town. That's the point. This is where Byron actually plays, trains, and gathers, well away from the main strip theatre. The complex covers a broad spread of sporting and cultural uses, from courts and fields to community event space, making it a genuine civic anchor for the area rather than a tourist proposition. It's the kind of place you end up when you're here long enough to need somewhere to run, compete, or catch a local event. Check what's on before you go. Programming varies, and the calendar tends to reward those who look it up rather than those who just turn up.
Good location and well laid out for sorting events. It’s also extremely convenient to head to the pub after your game/fight/ show for a schnitzel and a pint. To be honest that’s all that keeps me going most of the time.
"Byron Bay, you were a dream — even under grey skies and raindrops. Nature, peace, and a little adventure made it unforgettable. Until next time!"
Had great visit for the NRRD inspired 2025 Masters Derby Bout. Sure beats roller skating

Byron Bay
Dawn flights over the Tweed Valley hinterland, with the Byron lighthouse visible on a clear morning and macadamia farms rolling out below. A champagne breakfast follows landing. The 5am pickup is non-negotiable, but the light at that hour is the whole point.

Byron Bay
Morning kayak tours launching from Clarkes Beach, with the Cape Byron headland as your landmark and dolphins as a genuine possibility. Accessible to beginners, priced in the middle of the Byron activities market. The lighthouse circuit is the one to book.

Byron Bay is expensive, and everyone knows it. But the actual best things here, the headland at dawn, the easternmost sunrise on the continent, the dolphins at the Brunswick river mouth, cost nothing. Here is the honest list of what is genuinely free, and what just gets marketed that way.
Byron Bay works best for families when you stop trying to do it the way you did it before kids. The right beach depends on the age of your children. The right timing depends on the activity. Here is the specific, honest guide to getting it right, from the calmest coves for toddlers to the sunrise kayak that actually lands with teenagers.
Absolutely love this place. Great running, soccer, basketball, dance and more facilities 🙂🙂🙂
Hot showers available at $7/person. A bit pricey but alas it's a touristy town. Clean and large facilities
Byron Bay
The 3.7-kilometre loop around Cape Byron headland takes in Wategos Beach, The Pass, and the easternmost point of mainland Australia. Humpback whales pass through in season, dolphins are common year-round. Go at sunrise or late afternoon to beat the crowds.
