North Head walking track
New Brighton · Activities & Tours
(20 reviews)
The track cuts through coastal heath to a headland that looks out over the Brunswick Valley, the hinterland ranges, and on clear days, the Cape Byron lighthouse to the south. It starts near New Brighton and follows the northern headland above the beach, rewarding the walk with one of the better vantage points on this stretch of coast. No facilities, no signage drama, no entry fee. Bring water, wear shoes with grip, and go in the morning before the northerly picks up. The heath blooms in late winter and spring, which makes the timing worth noting. This is the kind of walk locals do on a weekday when they want to remember why they live here.

What People Say
Well worth the effort. Moderate effort rain forest track just under 2km return. Views of Ocean Shores Beach and the Brunswick River.
First time I had seen the Brunswick River from that perspective. Lovely walk. The beach, like all Northern beaches, was fab.
Park at the end of the North Head Road for an epic surf spot. Toilet, no water. Parking.
Short but scenic tree walk along-side the beach to Brunswick River. Plenty of shade and bird life.
Was there to celebrate the wedding of my son and his fiancee. Beautiful setting.
