The big pool is deep and the water runs dark, which is half the point. Currumbin Rock Pools sit alongside Currumbin Creek Road in the valley, a 10-15 minute drive from the beach, and they draw families, picnic blankets, and the occasional overconfident cliff jumper. The shallow pools are gentle enough for kids to wade in; the larger, deeper pool demands more respect. Picnic tables, barbecues, and toilets are all on site, and a café sits directly across the road if you've forgotten lunch. Parking is reasonable. The water clarity drops on busy days, particularly in the downstream pools. Worth noting: the warning signs are there for a reason. Check depth before jumping, test the rocks before stepping, and go on a weekday if you want the place to yourself.
Children love it very much and it is close to nature, making it a great place for family outings and gatherings.
Great spot. Was fun until a tourist jumped off a 12m ledge. Struck his head on a rock underwater causing a serious laceration. Lucky to not be killed. TEST THE DEPTH BEFORE YOU JUMP
It’s a nice place. Easy access. Had warning signs as very dangerous. Nice to sit in the shallow rock pools. If game the big rock pool is quite big and deep but you can’t see in the water so check your surroundings and the depth first. People had picnics blankets and dogs. A bit of grass to sit on. Quite a bit of parking. Nice for a rock pool but I’ve been to a few nicer ones here.

Springbrook
A waterfall drops through a collapsed cave ceiling at the Natural Bridge, and at dusk the glow-worms take over. Purling Brook Falls, Twin Falls, and sweeping coastal lookouts fill out a day on the plateau. The mountain air alone is worth the drive up.

Springbrook
A 109-metre waterfall with a swimmable rock pool at its base, a well-maintained 4km loop through dense rainforest, and lookouts that justify every stair. Come after rain. The photos never do it justice, and the parking is always a gamble.

Most visitors drive straight to the beach and miss everything else. The Gold Coast's southern suburbs and hinterland hold a different kind of destination: a pastry café by a creek, a wildlife park that beats the famous one, rock pools the tourists haven't found yet, and a heritage-village spa that locals guard quietly. Here is the list.
The hinterland is not just a couples escape. Wildlife encounters, rock pool swimming, trampoline parks, and family-friendly dining make it one of the Gold Coast's best days out for kids of any age. Here is how to plan it properly, in the right order, without spending the day in the car.
Forty minutes from the coast, the Gold Coast Hinterland holds some of southeast Queensland's best walking tracks. From the glow-worm cave at Natural Bridge to the 109-metre drop at Purling Brook Falls, here is the definitive guide to the walks and waterfalls worth the drive, with honest notes on difficulty, parking, and when to arrive.
Three days in the Gold Coast Hinterland, done properly. This itinerary runs from Currumbin Valley rock pools to Springbrook rainforest to Beechmont estate dinners, with every stop worth the detour. Autumn is the best time to do it. Here is the day-by-day plan, including where to stay, what to book in advance, and which road to take home.
What a beautiful magical place to sit & enjoy the great out doors in nature. So pretty & serene. Just a 40 minute drive from the Gold Coast, it worth the drive.
In the Currumbin river there are a number of rockpools. Not without danger as the rocks maybe slippery. Also, often, the more downstream the pool is the more unclear the water is, especially so on busy days when many oersons visit the upstream pools.
Advancetown
A flat, paved crossing of the dam wall with Advancetown Lake on one side and green hinterland valley on the other. Stop at View Cafe before heading into Springbrook, or hit the Peter Hallinan Mountain Bike Precinct. Come early in summer. The sun on that wall is no joke.
Autumn mornings in the hinterland are made for dogs: cool air, quiet trails, and creek water to wade in. But the rules here matter. National parks say no, so the real trip runs through Currumbin Valley, the southern beaches, and a handful of pub gardens that actually have room. Here is where to go, where to eat, and what to pack.
