The recreation of Margaret Olley's Paddington studio is the reason people drive out to South Murwillumbah. Every surface crammed with objects, colour, and the particular chaos of a working artist's life, it's the kind of installation that makes non-art people stop and stare. The gallery sits in the Tweed Valley with views to match the collection, and the rotating exhibitions pull in regional, national, and international work. Apex Dining does lunch on site; the garlic and ginger prawns have earned their own mentions in reviews. Book a free guided tour with one of the volunteer guides rather than going it alone. The difference in experience is significant, and the guides know their Olley. Allow more time than you think you need.
2nd time visiting .. and this time we were in time for a guided tour (free) by a passionate volunteer, Julie, who shared heaps about Margaret Olley and also a out the variety of art works. Much better experience compared to sef touring the beautiful works, thank you :-)
I was inspired by looking at these arts of Margaret Olley, her work of art is surreal and beautiful. My children were also drawn into it. Very informative when Poppy gave us the opportunity to share her thoughts on art. Thank you.
Wonderful, with the Margaret Olley installation a standout. Greg Weights photographic exhibition also captured some of the legends in Australian art and culture. If you go with plenty of time to spare then spend it in the library and make sure to visit Apex Dining for lunch, the garlic and ginger prawns were delicious.

A 4.4-kilometre return walk through subtropical rainforest leads to a cascade dropping into Morans Creek. The track is easy, the canopy is cool, and weekday crowds are thin. The drive up Lamington National Park Road is the real adventure.

Burleigh Heads
Named after the naturalist who first bred platypus in captivity, this compact Burleigh Heads wildlife park punches above its size. Naturalistic habitats, knowledgeable staff who actually stop to talk, and a bird show worth timing your visit around.

Forty minutes from the coast, the Gold Coast Hinterland holds some of southeast Queensland's best walking tracks. From the glow-worm cave at Natural Bridge to the 109-metre drop at Purling Brook Falls, here is the definitive guide to the walks and waterfalls worth the drive, with honest notes on difficulty, parking, and when to arrive.
The temperature drops somewhere around the Nerang turnoff and the Gold Coast you know disappears in the rear-view mirror. This is how to spend a proper 48 hours in the hinterland: a rainforest lodge, Springbrook's waterfalls, glow-worms at dusk, good food on both sides of the mountain, and a Sunday drive home you will not regret.
What a gorgeous place to visit. Both the natural beauty surrounding the gallery, which you can admire while eating a delicious lunch, and the art inside the gallery. Seeing inside Margaret Olley's house really takes you into her mind and shows you all the creativity that was bursting out of her.
Must visit art gallery if you’re in Murwillumbah or in Gold Coast. Interesting to see the special exhibition dedicated to Olle. Despite not being an artist, i love to visit art gallery where i am from. There is so much knowledge to learn from each masterpiece at every art gallery i have been visiting.
Springbrook
A waterfall drops through a collapsed cave ceiling at the Natural Bridge, and at dusk the glow-worms take over. Purling Brook Falls, Twin Falls, and sweeping coastal lookouts fill out a day on the plateau. The mountain air alone is worth the drive up.
