Set on 17 acres of subtropical rainforest between Byron's town centre and Broken Head, this is the kind of place that makes you forget you booked a hotel. Crystalbrook Byron sits at the quieter, southern end of the shire, far enough from Jonson Street to feel like a retreat, close enough to reach it when you want to. The property runs on a certified carbon-neutral model, with solar energy, electric vehicle charging, and a genuine commitment to low-impact hospitality that goes beyond the usual greenwashing. Expect resort-scale facilities, including a pool, spa, and the in-house restaurant, with rainforest as the backdrop rather than the beach. No reviews to calibrate expectations against, so book direct and ask what's on at the property before you arrive.
My recent stay at Crystalbrook Byron Bay was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was serene, luxurious, and beautifully immersed in nature. The rainforest setting creates such a peaceful escape, yet the service makes it feel incredibly warm and personal. What truly made our experience stand out was Hugh’s leadership. Hugh sets the gold standard for customer service. His professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine care for guests are remarkable. He goes above and beyond to ensure every detail is perfect, making you feel valued and welcomed throughout your stay. It’s rare to encounter management so hands-on and dedicated to excellence. The suites were spacious and immaculate, the dining experience was superb, and every staff member reflected the same high standard of hospitality. It’s clear that strong leadership flows through the entire team. If you’re looking for a luxurious, tranquil getaway with truly outstanding service, I couldn’t recommend this resort more highly. We’ll absolutely be returning!
A beautiful resort inside a rainforest. Very beautifully appointed, the apartments are very clean, comfortable and inserted in nature. They have a nice kitchen, washing machine, dryer, fridge and dishwasher. Two beautiful balconies. There is a very big and clean pool to swim all day. The beach towels are offered generously, which is nice because you can change them when they get wet. The restaurant is excellent and so is the coffee. A big shout out to Jing who looked after us in the mornings taking our coffee orders. Very good at her job this girl! And there is a very nice tennis court which we used several times. Highly recommended. Well done to management.

Wategos Beach
The only property sitting directly on Wategos Beach, Raes trades on position and a long-running restaurant reputation. Mediterranean in feel, small in scale, and priced accordingly. If you're going to spend up in Byron, the address alone makes a reasonable argument.

Byron Bay
Forty-five acres of coastal wetland, freestanding villas pointed at the trees, and private beach access. Elements sits deliberately apart from Byron's centre. The distance from the main strip isn't a drawback; it's the whole idea.

Byron Bay in winter is the version locals prefer. Whale migrations off the headland, hinterland day trips in cool clear air, wellness retreats you can actually get into, and accommodation prices that reflect the season. June through August is not the off-season. It is the right season.
Byron Bay is a better place with a dog in tow. Belongil Beach for off-leash mornings, the Cape Byron headland track on a lead, and a string of outdoor cafes that will not flinch at a dog under the table. Here is the practical guide to doing it properly, from where to stay to which beaches actually let you off the lead.
Byron will eat your budget alive if you let it. But the bones of a genuinely cheap trip are still here. The lighthouse walk is free and worth waking up for. The tacos on Byron Street are the most honest meal in town. Here is what to do, where to eat, and what to skip entirely.
Byron Bay attracts travellers who care how lightly they tread. But do the places they sleep actually share that value? From certified carbon-neutral rainforest properties to a holiday park at the foot of Cape Byron Lighthouse, here are the eco-friendly stays that earn the label, across every price point.
Unparalleled hotel experience in Australia over the past 15 years! Exceptional service and spotless, spacious rooms that easily accommodate families of four. The on-site dining was delicious. Our family greatly enjoyed the onsite sports activities such as yoga, tennis, sauna and swimming pool. The unique location within a serene nature reserve made our stay truly memorable. Outstanding value for money, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!
Review of Crystalbrook Byron after a short 3 night getaway. The first impression of the resort on arrival is one of luxury - the reception area and surrounding gardens, pool and decking are beautiful. We were impressed with the ample lounger and seating availability at the pool. The room itself was nice but I would not say it is to the standard of other Crystalbrook hotels or other 5 star hotels we have stayed at. However in the setting of Byron it is one of the better accommodation options. We did appreciate that the room is well equipped and had practical facilities. The hotel staff were polite and accommodating. We ate at the Forest restaurant for breakfast on multiple occasions as well as ordering room service one evening. On all occasions the service was fast and the meals of good quality ingredients. In particular I would like to thank the Eleme Spa manager who fitted us in for a couples massage at short request prior to our visit.
Great location, right in the middle of the rainforest. With each room feeling like you are in forest itself. V close to Byron Bay town. The restaurant, covered verandah and pool area are great, unfortunately the service was patchy with some staff not appearing to know what they were doing..and a bar that closed at 8.30pm..and told we could order from room service 😪
Byron Bay
Ten minutes from town on Ewingsdale Road, Discovery Parks is the sensible answer to Byron's accommodation prices. Cabins, powered sites, pools, and playground infrastructure that actually keeps kids occupied. The beach requires a drive, but so does your budget if you book elsewhere.
