Right at the junction where Jonson Street meets the beach precinct, Fishheads has the kind of address that does half the work. The focus is straightforward: seafood, done without fuss, at prices that won't require a second mortgage. Expect fish and chips, grilled catch, and the kind of takeaway-friendly format that suits sandy feet and no patience for a long sit-down. The casual setup makes it a practical choice after a morning at Main Beach, particularly if you're feeding a group with different ideas about how long lunch should take. Without a strong review base to draw from, it's hard to call the standout dish with confidence, but the positioning is clear: accessible, unfussy, and centrally located. Worth a look if you're after something simple and close to the water.
Been coming to Byron quite often, but this was my first time trying. Ended up visiting on a rainy afternoon, and honestly, the timing felt perfect. I ordered the seafood mixed grill, tiramisu, rice, and a drink. Unfortunately, they had run out of rice at the time, but Raine immediately offered a complimentary substitute after noticing I was craving something to go with the meal. Small gesture, but it made a big difference. The whole experience felt calm and relaxing, exactly what I needed on my day off. Big credit to Raine as well for handling the floor mostly on her own while managing several groups dining in. Hospitality like that does not go unnoticed. She also handed me a Byron visitors booklet which was a thoughtful touch and something I did not expect. Food was great, atmosphere was chill, service felt genuine. Definitely coming back again next time I’m in Byron Bay
Great place overlooking the beach. The vibe was awesome. We went there to grab the oyster & drink evening deal and stayed for dinner. The oysters were AMAZING The food not so much 🤪 especially given the price! Loved talking to the loyal locals sitting next to us and generally soakimg in the atmosphere. Could see the lighthouse in the distance too.

Wategos Beach
Directly above the sand at Wategos Beach, Raes Dining Room is Byron's most location-loaded fine dining address. Mediterranean-leaning seafood, full-occasion pricing, and a room that makes the most of one of the coast's prettiest coves. Book the terrace.

Byron Bay
Tucked into Jonson Lane, away from the main-street circus, Bang Bang keeps things casual and affordable. The kind of spot that rewards locals who know their way around the back streets of Byron.

Byron Bay
Corner of Jonson Street, Folk is the kind of all-day café that earns its place through good bones rather than spectacle. Warm timbers, honest café fare, mid-range pricing, and a front-row seat to Byron's main strip.
Excellent location, almost on the Byron Bay beach. We had some yummy sweet potato chips & coffee to escape from the heavy rain. Food on the menu seemed quite expensive. Lunchtime was popular. Service was prompt. Nicely decorated upmarket place, plenty of seating inside & in covered deck.
Honestly if this is the best quality in the shire then steer clear. For such a simple thing as fish and chips this missed the mark and not for the first time. Over cooked by a long shot, hard and chewy at the same time and dry. Not to mention the portion size. This is what a “large” gets you these days for $14 mind you. Absolute joke, if you’re charging that much it needs to be a lot bigger and a lot better than this. Gone are the days of proper fish and chips. I’m aware of cost of living and business rent etc etc but potato’s and or frozen chips are not a huge cost so really there’s no excuse for this poor example. I’ve given the benefit of the doubt on several occasions and each time I’m left disappointed. It pains me that this is what’s being served up, especially for an establishment right on the beachfront. I really hope it gets better in future. Side note. Fish wasn’t too bad.
Beautiful welcome on arrival, amazing seating overlooking main beach Byron bay. Marloe the waiter was absolutely fabulous AS ALWAYS - so helpful with meal recommendations and wine pairing. Manager Prez, always amazing. Highly recommend- we ate the mixed grill with serving of char grilled broccolini - fresh- delicious- great atmosphere and wonderful staff. No wait time on food.
