The name does a lot of work here. Sunday Sustainable Bakery on Jonson Street positions itself around the kind of baking that takes its environmental responsibilities seriously, which in Byron is less a novelty and more a baseline expectation. What matters is whether the bread delivers. At a mid-range price point for the area, this is a neighbourhood cafe stop rather than a destination splurge. Jonson Street puts it in the thick of town foot traffic, useful for a coffee and something baked before the beach crowds build. No reviews yet means no dish names to point you toward, no staff worth mentioning by name. Come in with low expectations and let the food form your opinion. If the sustainability framing is backed by the baking, it will earn its regulars quickly enough.

What People Say
I stopped by the Sustainable Bakery and had an egg roll sandwich and an iced coffee. Both were really delicious! I paid $19 for the combo, which is okay for Byron prices, but good to keep in mind. The vibe of the place is nice, and the staff were very friendly. It's in a super central spot, so it’s always busy with people, which gives it a lively atmosphere. Overall, I can definitely recommend it if you're looking for a quick bite or a coffee while exploring the town. Pros: Tasty food & good coffee Central location Friendly staff Cons: Can get a bit pricey ($19 for the roll/coffee combo)
We visited Sunday Sustainable Bakery and really liked the place! They have plenty of pastry and roll options, and the coffee was great, great, great! Watching the barista work so calmly and perfectly actually made us order a second coffee ☕️ The only downside for us was that the young staff didn’t seem in the best mood, they didn’t even ask if we wanted our sandwiches toasted and served us in a rush. I know it can be hot and it was close to lunch time, so maybe they were already tired. They weren’t rude, just didn’t seem in the mood. Also, the cups for water were a bit gross, which was awful. We know sometimes things come out of the dishwasher like that, but it’s always good to double-check before putting them out for customers. Overall though, friendly vibe, tasty food, and amazing coffee!
The best spinach and feta sausage droll I've ever tasted! The pastry is so crisp and the fillings so real and flavourful. I love the free home made sauce. The pistachio danish was such a treat.
A local must do for lunch! Excellent toasted ham and cheese croissant and cinnamon roll. It is those kind of big "Lune" croissants that have gained popularity in Australia
It’s the best local bakery cafe in Byron Bay!! We had a double brie sandwich. The combination of the brie, caramelized onion and baguette was incredibly delicious!! The atmosphere was completely chill. Whereas people kept coming in to get their bread constantly. We will definitely come back here when we come to Byron Bay.
