The Moreton Bay bug roll has its own reputation on the Gold Coast, and it earns every bit of it. Rick Shores sits right on Burleigh Heads beach, open-windowed and facing the water, which makes a sunset booking one of the better decisions you can make on the Gold Coast. The menu runs Pan-Asian, with housemade roti built for mopping up coconut prawn curry, salmon spring rolls with avocado cream, and Phoenix Wagyu in truffle honey sauce. A chef's hat on the wall, $90 set menu at lunch, and floor staff who actually know the food. Prices sit firmly in the expensive bracket, but multiple reviewers report leaving too full for dinner. Walk-ins are welcome, though a window seat at sunset is a different story. Book for that.
Absolutely stunning experience at Rick Shores. The view alone is worth the visit. The dining area faces the beach with open windows, and we went during sunset for dinner. It was genuinely magical. We didn’t make a booking and were trying to get one beforehand, but luckily they always keep tables for walk-ins. We didn’t have to wait and even got a bar seat, which was perfect. The host was friendly and informative, setting the tone right away. Our server, Nataniel, was fun, warm, and genuinely attentive. He gave us honest and thoughtful recommendations on what to order, and every suggestion was spot on. He’s a vibe 😂 Amazing food, incredible views, and great service. Will definitely be back.
We went to Rick Shores for an early dinner with a group of four and had a really great experience. The location is stunning right on the beach and the overall vibe is relaxed but still feels special. Service was a standout for us. Our server was excellent and guided us really well with ordering, especially around portion sizes, which made a big difference. We ordered a mix of dishes including cured king salmon sashimi, lobster prawn dumplings, Moreton Bay bug roll, garage chicken, and wagyu sirloin, along with a few Long Island iced teas. Everything was fresh, flavourful, and came out at a good pace. What we appreciated most was that the recommendations were spot on we had just the right amount of food, nothing went to waste, and everyone left happy. Overall, great food, great service, and an amazing setting. Would definitely come back.

Two hours by tractor through orchards growing fruits most Australians have never seen, let alone tasted. The guided tastings are the main event, the jackfruit Reuben and Black Sapote cake make a strong case for staying for lunch, and the fruit stall on the way out is dangerously well-stocked.

Palm Beach
Beachfront dining at Palm Beach with views straight over Tallebudgera and service that regulars keep coming back for. The seafood platter is the order, the chilli prawn pasta is the dark horse, and the recent renovation has made the whole room worth the trip.

Rick Shores is an amazing restaurant that really has it all. The food is delicious, the staff are so friendly and the view is astonishing. We were fortunate enough to have a beach front view that felt like you were looking at a postcard! Our waitress Elizabeth was a breath of fresh air that added so much to our experience. She was very personable, had a great knowledgeable of the menu and made excellent recommendations about the food and activities in the area as well. You are lucky to have her. The food was amazing and we loved the flavours and the creativity. The salmon spring rolls were an unexpected highlight, with the avocado cream pairing just delightful. The super light housemade roti is an absolute must to soak up the sauce from one of their delicious curries. We had the coconut prawn curry and it was divine. The signature Moreton Bay bug rolls are delicious as they look, and the Phoenix Wagyu in the truffle honey sauce is a must try. A beautiful location with amazing food and staff. Well done Rick Shores, thank you for a wonderful experience that we won't forget.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rick Shores is an ABSOLUTE MUST-VISIT! 🤩 Seriously, stop what you're doing and book a table here. I am still dreaming about this place! First off, the view is unreal, right on Burleigh Heads, you can't get a better spot to soak up the Gold Coast vibe. Now for the food. There are two things you must order: the Roti and Burrata and the Moreton Bay Bug Roll. That Roti and Burrata starter is ridiculously good, and the Bug Roll is famous for a reason, every single bite was an explosion of perfectly delicious, well-balanced flavours. Honestly, everything we tried was faultless! But the absolute cherry on top was the incredible hospitality. We were looked after so well. A HUGE shout-out to Lachie, he was an amazing host! He was super friendly, made us feel so comfortable, and ensured we had the best possible experience. Give that guy a raise! 🙌 Go for the food, go for the view, but stay for the whole fantastic experience. You won't regret it!
We can't thank the team enough for a wonderful lunch. Lauren looked after us so well. The $90 set menu was magical. Each dish was sublime. We had sparkling and an Albarino. Very good. I asked them about a cocktail that wasn't on the list and if course they happily made it. I can tell you, we didn't eat any dinner! A special place ❤️

Open around the clock at the Tweed Valley Way junction, this Ampol Foodary is the practical stop between Byron and the Gold Coast. Boost Juice, hot coffee, and convenience store staples. Useful when almost nothing else is.
