Out on Bayshore Drive, away from the tourist drag, North Byron Hotel is the kind of pub that actually serves the people who live here. Expect cold beer at honest prices, a crowd that's more tradie-after-work than festival-wristband, and a no-fuss atmosphere that doesn't require a reservation or a particular outfit. The Bayshore Drive address puts it close to the Arts & Industry Estate, which tells you something about the regulars. With a price point that won't sting, it fills a genuine gap in a town where a round of drinks can feel like a small investment. No reviews to mine yet, but at this price level and in this location, the pitch is straightforward: a local pub doing local pub things, without the Byron Bay markup.

We can here early afternoon with kids. We had such a lovely time, the beautiful atmosphere, the chilled out music and you can bring your dog too. It has been beautifully finished and a great choice of drinks and food. We ordered a slider, prawns with chilli sauce, salad and a margarita pizza and everyone said their meal was delicious.

A fab venue for a casual Saturday lunch with lots of indoor and outdoor areas. They were able to accommodate our group of 12 without a booking. It had a lovely casual resort vibe and the food was yummy. There is a wood fire pizza oven and the pizzas were excellent. I especially loved the mushroom pizza, it was savory and juicy in all the best ways. Great venue for a lazy lunch!

I have been coming to this hotel for quite a few years now. Seeing it grow and develop from the Sunrise Tavern. It was great to see it gain in character and style, reflecting the laid back, organic Byron vibe, with wooden play areas for the children, posts to tether horses to, and vegetation and herb gardens. Over the past 12 months though, it feels as though some of that original charm and character has been lost. The addition of a giant outdoor TV screen and a large plastic children’s play area has changed the atmosphere of what once felt like a relaxed and beautifully natural garden setting. I also understand that DJs are part of the beer garden experience and can add to the atmosphere, but at times the venue feels as though it is moving away from the more relaxed vibe that it used to have. The music does not always need to be quite so loud in what was once such a calm and laid-back space. Another small thing that feels out of place is the outdoor fire cooking displays. While some people may enjoy them, not all customers necessarily want to see whole animals being cooked in full view while trying to relax in the garden setting. That said, the staff are always wonderful and clearly do their best, although they often appear overstretched and overworked. I would give them six stars if I could.
