The Balcony Bar & Oyster Co.
Byron Bay · Nightlife & Bars
(3,045 reviews)
$$
Oysters and a balcony view over Lawson Street: this is Byron's version of a proper bar. The Balcony Bar & Oyster Co. sits above the street-level buzz, which gives it a remove from the tourist foot traffic below without losing the energy. The format is simple: fresh oysters, cold drinks, and a perch worth lingering on. Pricing sits in the mid-range, reasonable enough for a round or two without commitment. No reviews to draw on yet, but the combination of raw bar and elevated outdoor seating fills a genuine gap in Byron's bar scene. Come at sunset when the light hits the street below and the crowd thins just enough. Book ahead on weekends.

What People Say
Came here for Christmas Day with my husband and had the three course menu. All the food was lovely, extremely tasty and very good portion sizes. The staff were friendly and polite and made us feel festive. I tried two cocktails too, which were both very good. I felt the price was reasonable. Would recommend!
Great place to enjoy drinking at Byron! I stopped there and really liked the vibe. It’s right in the middle of town and the balcony seats are perfect for people-watching and relaxing. I went during Happy Hour, so drinks were super affordable — especially the cocktails. Such a good spot to chill with a drink after walking around the town. The staff were friendly and the whole place felt easy-going and welcoming. Great for solo travelers too. Definitely worth checking out if you want a relaxed drink in Byron Bay.
Absolutely brilliant experience. So wonderful to revisit one of my favourite restaurants in Byron Bay . Incredibly beautiful atmosphere and the best service always. The place was packed by 6 pm and two stand out staff members were Alice and Sarah . The food was absolutely delicious and quickly served . Great choice of food and fantastic drink🍷 menu . Highly recommend. Congratulations to the management for such a well-oiled restaurant and amazing staff .
The place was nice, the staff are friendly and very kind. The food look so fancy also delicious. However the fresh oyster is very expensive guess it like this every where in Byron bay but just that I came from Brisbane and we can have a dozen with less than half price of 6 oyster here.
It was a prefect location. Gorgeous deep balcony and internal rooms. So classy with it's shabby-shiek look. Food was fantastic, as were the cocktails. And if you get there for happy hour, grab a dozen oysters each and enjoy! They absolutely don't get any better! Staff were friendly and efficient. Shout out to Emma from Belgium. Worth every penny we spent.
More Nightlife & Bars in Byron Bay

The Mez Club | Cocktail Bar | Restaurant | Byron Bay
Byron Bay
Mezcal cocktails and mezze plates on Jonson Street, priced for a proper night rather than a casual one. The concept sits somewhere between cocktail bar and Middle Eastern restaurant. Worth a visit when you want somewhere with a bit more intent than the average Byron strip.

The Northern
Byron Bay
Jonson Street's most reliable night-out anchor. Live music, a workable bar, and a crowd that mixes locals with clued-in visitors. Reasonable by Byron standards, which is saying something. Check what's on before you arrive.

North Byron Hotel
Byron Bay
Away from the main strip on Bayshore Drive, North Byron Hotel is the affordable, unpretentious option for people who actually live here. Cold beer, no dress code, prices that make sense. The kind of pub Byron needs more of.

The Middle Pub
Mullumbimby
Rooms above a working pub on Burringbar Street, in the middle of Mullumbimby's main strip. The most affordable way to actually sleep in Mullum rather than drive in from somewhere else. No frills, but the farmers market is walkable.
