The balcony view from a Sky Lodge at Binna Burra is the kind that stops conversation mid-sentence. Perched above the Gondwana Rainforest in the Gold Coast Hinterland, this heritage lodge sits inside World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park, about 70 minutes from Brisbane when the city heat becomes genuinely unbearable. Accommodation runs from unpowered campsites and safari tents through to the award-winning Sky Lodges, so the price reality varies considerably. The cafe deck is worth the drive on its own: the beef burger draws repeat orders, and the wedges have their own following. Camp facilities are clean, the hot water reliable, and the electric BBQ shelters thoughtfully placed. Ancient beech trees line the walking tracks. Book a Sky Lodge if you want the view; book a campsite if you want the quiet.
My adult Son and I rode our Motorbikes out to Binna Burra yesterday ( Thurs ) to enjoy such a lovely ride through Lamington National Park. When we reached Binna Burra we went to the Cafe for lunch, we didn't stay at the lodge so can't comment about that. At the Cafe we sat outside on the decking and were overlooking the stunning view with a refreshing breeze that kept us cool on this hot day. It was so peaceful and relaxing and just enjoying great conversation and listening to the beautiful birds going about their business. We ordered the Beef Burger served with Chips, the Potato Wedges with Chilli Sauce and Sour Cream and Coffee. We were suprised how quick our food came out and we both really enjoyed our meals. I loved that Beef Burger, I could have easily ordered another one, but I controlled myself over eating compulsion 🤣, and my Cappuccino went down a treat too. My son got the Wedges, he said they were the best he had had in a long time. Its really a lovely place to come and visit and do a catch up with friends ir family. Also for the adventurous type, there are plenty of great bush walking tracks too down to the amazing waterfalls. I use to do these in my younger years when I was fit and not broken, and I highly recommend it as our Australian Bush and Rainforest is just stunning. Get out to Binna Burra you won't be disappointed.
If you're deciding whether to stay at O'Reillys or Binnaburra, you won't be disappointed by either. But Binnaburra is my new favourite! It's quiet, cosy, the facilities are great, the price is right, and the views are stunning! Each campsite it clearly marked and plenty spacious (we easily fit two 2-person and one single person tents, with room to spare for extra bags and thoroughfares between. The camp shower and bathroom facilities are really nice and clean. The water is hot, and there are multiple shelters with electric bbq hotplates. Plus, if you're not interested in cooking, the lodge nearby has excellent meals. There are plenty of spots to chill with park bench and table style seating scattered throughout, and even a paved campfire area with bigger benches that overlook the view. The carpark for unpowered site campers can be a little confusing, as you don't park by your tent site. So keep in mind that you'll have to cart your gear a short way to where you'll sleep and eat. Really, really enjoyed our stay here, and keen to return!

Bilinga
A ten-minute walk from Gold Coast Airport, this budget YHA in Bilinga is built around one purpose: the early flight. Staff are genuinely helpful, the communal kitchen is spacious, and the private rooms cover the basics. Manage expectations on the facilities and it does the job.

Tugun
Step out the gate and you're on Tugun's quietest stretch of Gold Coast sand. Spacious one, two, and three-bedroom apartments with full kitchens and balconies, a pool, and direct beach access. The 'park the car and forget it' holiday, done properly.

The air changes about twenty minutes past the Pacific Motorway. The Gold Coast Hinterland has become Queensland's most compelling wellness destination, from a salt cave in Mermaid Waters to an infinity pool above the rainforest at Neranwood. Here is where to go, what to book, and what actually delivers.
The alarm goes off and instead of traffic, you hear wallabies. That is the farm stay deal in the Gold Coast Hinterland. From a chef-hatted restaurant on seventy-five rural acres to a rainforest lodge above World Heritage wilderness, here are the properties worth leaving the coast for.
The temperature drops somewhere around the Nerang turnoff and the Gold Coast you know disappears in the rear-view mirror. This is how to spend a proper 48 hours in the hinterland: a rainforest lodge, Springbrook's waterfalls, glow-worms at dusk, good food on both sides of the mountain, and a Sunday drive home you will not regret.
The hinterland is where the Gold Coast actually breathes. Cool mornings, ancient rainforest, country pubs, and lodges where lorikeets show up at breakfast uninvited. From Binna Burra's sky-high balcony views to O'Reilly's century-old retreat above Canungra, here is where to stay across every corner of the Gold Coast Hinterland.
Perfect escape to the Gold Coast Hinterlands hidden gem. A leisurely drive through tropical rainforest paths, with the occasional panaramic view of the coastal city skyline as you travel further into the woods. Binna Burra teahouse and lodge is a lovely place to feel grounded and reconnect with nature while enjoying delicious meals. Highly recommended for any occasion.
Gr8 way to beat the Brisbane heat only 70 -80 minutes from city. Averaged up there in hinterland mountains at aroundv24- 27°C beats melting in the city . Picturesque views , nice staff and a dedicated restaurant. Lovely rainforest walking . Seeing the ancient beech trees was a highlight for me . We stayed in a van spot with power . Bathrooms clean with piping hot water . Highly recommend a stay .
We stayed at the Sky Lodge in Binna Burra and absolutely loved it! The view from the balcony was one of the most amazing we’ve ever seen — truly breathtaking. The lodge itself was beautiful, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. We also loved that there were so many hikes to choose from right at our doorstep! 🍃
Bilinga
A hundred metres from the terminal, with a rooftop bar, ocean views from level six, and a beach ten minutes on foot. The breakfast buffet is well stocked, the staff are genuinely good, and the pool beats the departure lounge every time.
Three days in the Gold Coast Hinterland, done properly. This itinerary runs from Currumbin Valley rock pools to Springbrook rainforest to Beechmont estate dinners, with every stop worth the detour. Autumn is the best time to do it. Here is the day-by-day plan, including where to stay, what to book in advance, and which road to take home.
