The northern beach is the move. Tucked into the base of Burleigh Headland, this small sheltered bay has been a Gold Coast favourite for decades, and the locals who know it have been coming back for twenty, thirty, sixty years. No current in the bay proper, plenty of tree shade along the back, and enough fish around the rocks to make a snorkel worthwhile. Tide matters here: aim for the top of the tide or the last hour of the run in for the best swimming. Parking on the main road fills fast, so park in the side streets and walk. Once you're done in the water, the headland loop to Burleigh is a short walk with open ocean views that make the whole morning feel earned.

What People Say
Beautiful spot but tough to get a carpark but worth the walk from the side streets! Can be quite full like sardines at high tide but the turnover of people is busy so if there isn’t a spot at first, one will pop up! Lots of little fish so great for snorkelling too around the rocks. Sheltered by the trees if you like the shade but also plenty of sand for tanning. There is no current in the small bay too so feels super safe.
Been a favourite place for 60 years. You can find some shade so you dont fry, water is amazing. Choose time when tides are OK to swim and beware of strong currents at times.
One of the best spots for a quiet swim anywhere on the Gold Coast. Aim for the northern beach. Sheltered and plenty of shade. Try for top of the tide or the last hour of the run in. While you’re there walk the headland around to Burleigh. It’s only a short walk with great views to the ocean and the surf. Northern side is the best side for all this. Parking can be difficult, but on a quiet day it’s not a problem. Safe and good for kids. Take a snorkel and a mask.
Burleigh Heads Beach is very relaxing, not so busy and nice park for everyone as well. Wether you want to soak in the sun or have a swim or just to hang around, it's the place to go.
My favourite beach since first moving to the GC over 20 years ago. Have to get there early for a park but there's nothinf better than walking the burleigh hill loop and ending up the beach for a swim.
