O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat
Canungra · Accommodation
(3,185 reviews)
Lorikeets landing on your breakfast plate is not a bug here, it's the whole point. Perched at the edge of Lamington National Park, two hours from Brisbane, O'Reilly's has been doing this since 1924, and the setting still earns its reputation. The 160 kilometres of rainforest trails, the ancient trees of the Box Circuit, the Lost World Spa after a long hike, these are the reasons to come. Rooms in the villas are comfortable and the views hold up. The buffet dinner and breakfast draw consistent praise, though the food package is a mixed bag depending on which night you land. Service runs warm to distracted. Stock up on groceries and drinks before the drive up, the on-site shop is convenient but priced accordingly. Book direct for the best rate.

What People Say
We stayed at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat for a weekend leading up to the Christmas holidays, and in many ways it delivered exactly what you hope for from a rainforest escape. The rooms are excellent, and the surrounding birdlife is truly something special. Waking up to birdsong and sharing the balcony with curious feathered visitors is a highlight and easily one of the most memorable parts of the stay. If you love nature, this aspect alone is worth the trip. We booked the full room-and-food package. While the convenience was appreciated, the food itself ranged from okay to average and didn’t quite match the premium price point. Service was also inconsistent. One day the staff made you feel genuinely welcomed and well looked after, and the next day the experience felt rushed or disengaged. One morning breakfast was moved to the pavilion, which unfortunately turned into a bit of chaos. Birds were actively trying to eat off plates, and it was uncomfortable watching management appear more focused on their own meals than on managing the situation or guest experience. It pulled you out of what should have been a relaxed start to the day. Pricing is on the high side, particularly for food and coffee, though to be fair this feels fairly standard across Australia at the moment. Still, at these prices, expectations are naturally higher. Overall, it’s a lovely place to stay with an incredible natural setting and unforgettable birdlife. With more consistent service and a stronger food experience, O’Reilly’s could easily turn a nice getaway into a truly special one.
We booked the indulgence summer package , and what a beautiful surprise it was . We are locals from Brisbane whom love a great little Getaway without the huge travel involved . 2 hours away from Brisbane , and you enter into an ancient world with some of the best hiking in the world . We loved the lodge , which had its charm. Our room was decent, clean and very comfortable. The buffet breakfast and dinner was great each evening and the service and staff were lovely . We created a nice little friendship with Stacey whom was super kind and fun. Our hike adventure was the Box Circuit , a great hike with a picnic and swim option . Ancient trees and pristine forest 🌳 We finished our hike with a massage from Lost World Spa and it was very good . This venue is great for family’s or couples . It’s not the cheapest place but when you get here , it all sees rather reasonable as you are out of town . It was lovely to see the CEO Shane O’Reilly running around helping too. What a great QLD gem.
Very quiet retreat in the middle of nowhere. We stayed 2 nights in a luxury villa and it was perfect for 4 persons! We enjoyed beautiful views, sunsets, the whirlpool on the terrace, as well as some exciting hikes in the national park all around the hotel with a lot of wildlife. Don‘t forget to buy some groceries/drinks before you arrive. A little minus: The hotel shop is quite pricy and there is no other shop around!
We did the zipline and enjoyed it so much! Had lunch in the cafe, service is not the greatest, but not the worst, chicken burger was delicious. Food is really expensive here!! We also did the bird feeding, I paid for our bowl of bird feed and had a young woman help herself to our bird feed that i purchased for me and my son. Im not sure people are aware that they need to pay for their own and not helo themselves to someone else's thing they paid for.
The location is absolutely stunning! the rainforest setting is the highlight and really is something special. We loved being surrounded by nature and the peaceful atmosphere. Unfortunately, the accommodation itself looks like it needs some maintenance and a deeper clean. These issues were present from the first day, so the room should not have been in that condition on arrival. Some concerns included: One room did not appear to have a smoke alarm When opening a cupboard to get an extra blanket, a cockroach ran out of the blanket Mould was visible around the fridge seal and in a few other areas Several cooking items were dirty and did not feel clean enough to use The outdoor spa required cleaning before use, as there was animal droppings on it. I cleaned it myself on our first day there, however some stains could not be removed. The bar area near the spa was never set up or available during our stay General wear and tear and cleanliness issues made the room feel neglected Additionally, other guests: be careful opening your car door at the check-in area. The curb and positioning meant my door was at perfect scraping height The location has so much potential, but the condition of the accommodation detracted from the overall experience. We still had a lovley time away.
